Blog Caroling: Do You Hear What I Hear?

Do You Hear What I Hear? was written in October 1962 by Noel Regney and Gloria Shayne Baker. Noel and Gloria were married at the time they wrote this song and it was written a plea for peace during Cuban Missle Crisis. The song was released in late November of 1962. My favorite version of this song was recorded in 1968 by the late Robert Goulet. It was for his album, Robert Goulet's Wonderful World of Christmas. You can listen to it here.

Do You Hear What I Hear?

Said the night wind to the little lamb,
do you see what I see
Way up in the sky, little lamb,
do you see what I see
A star, a star, dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite
With a tail as big as a kite

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy,
do you hear what I hear
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,
do you hear what I hear
A song, a song, high above the trees
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king,
do you know what I know
In your palace warm, mighty king,
do you know what I know
A Child, a Child shivers in the cold
Let us bring Him silver and gold
Let us bring Him silver and gold
Said the king to the people everywhere,
listen to what I say
Pray for peace, people everywhere!
listen to what I say
The Child, the Child, sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light

****An Important Message****

Dearest Readers,
Our beloved colleague, and editor/publisher of Shades of the Departed, the divine footnoteMAVEN, came up with the idea of blog caroling on a winter's eve, many long years ago. This year, as gift to fM, we continue, as any good genealogist would do, by celebrating the tradition. With fM's permission, of course.

This is Ol' Myrt's contribution, with a little help from Jordan Smith. If you wish to contribute to The Great Blog Caroling Song Book 2015 Edition, create your musical blog post, then post your link on the Friends of footnoteMAVEN Facebook Group located here.
