Top 5 Posts for Dawning Genealogy in 2016

While I didn't write as many posts as I had planned, I did have great responses to those I did post here at Dawning Genealogy! I am constantly amazed at how you my readers are always there to encourage and support me and I thank you one and all.

Here are my Top 5 Posts for 2016:

1. A List of My Favorite Websites is a list of all my favorite websites in regards to genealogy.

2. What Else Can I Do to Prove These Are Two Different People? This is the story of two women, Victoria J Neel and Victoria Spradling. I had been told that these two women were the same person so I set out to prove that in fact they were not and could not be considering that they never crossed paths in life.

3. Check, Check and Check Again! This is a post about two men named William G. Kitts. One was born in 1838 and the other circa 1819. Everyone seemed to think that these two men were one in the same but my first clue was the year of birth discrepancy, 19 years is a big difference!

4. Genealogy Education ~ Researching Civil War Ancestors in South Carolina in August 2015 I had the opportunity to attend a workshop at the South Carolina Department of Archives and History about researching Civil War Ancestors in South Carolina. It was very informative and gave me new sources to check for my children's paternal grandmother's line in South Carolina.

5. Are You Having Problems Finding Your Favorite Blogs? This post was about an issue with Google and their requirement for readers of Google/Blogspot blogs to have a Google account.

Here are my 3 Favorite Posts for 2016:

1. Happy Father's Day My post for Father's Day for the three most important men in my life, my Dad, my husband, Tommy and my son, David.

2. Movin' On Up! My post congratulating my son on a new job and the next adventure in his life.

3. Monday's With Easton # 6 My last post about Monday's with Easton! Once his ear infections cleared up he was back at daycare and keeping him in a routine was vital for Mommy and Daddy! However, that doesn't mean I won't be writing about my Doodlebug in the future!

It's My Blogiversary ~ 2 Years and Counting!

Thank you to everyone who has stopped by to read my blog in the last two years! I am very grateful and humbled by your encouragement and support. The time has flown by so quickly and I am incredibly awed by my fellow bloggers who have been blogging much longer.

I have written 254 blog posts since I began my blog on June 20th, 2014. This means that I have averaged 2.4 posts a week. It's down from last year's statistics but I have been busy with my 2nd blog and the research into my biological family is heating up big time! Because of this I am not posting as frequently here as I would like but there is definitely room for improvement!

I have learned so much in the last year especially through Thomas MacEntee's Genealogy Do-Over. I have also learned a lot from my copy of "Evidence Explained, Citing History Sources from Artifacts to Cyberspace 3rd Edition" by Elizabeth Shown Mills. I also reading several other books which I understand may have study groups so I need to pursue that avenue too. I have also met some great people through my blog and the genea-community as a whole.

I am looking forward to the next year of Dawning Genealogy and I am researching some great stories in my collateral lines. I also want to write about some of my Quaker ancestors on my Dad's side. I have also accumulated quite a few wills and and I have been transcribing them for a new column I hope to start in August.

Thank you again for stopping by! Here is a list of my top 15 posts from June 2015 to June 2016.

Take care,

Dawn

One Year of Writing my Blog

To quote Sally Field from her Oscar acceptance speech in 1985, "You like me, you really like me!" That is how I feel when you, my fellow bloggers, friends and family when you stop by to read my blog.

Thank you everyone who has stopped by to read my blog! There were many people who helped me, gave me feedback and support. However, I feel I may accidentally forgot someone if I list names and I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but you know who you are and please know I am very grateful for your encouragement and support.

I started joining some of the genealogy and DNA groups on Facebook last year and one of them was Geneabloggers, hosted by Thomas MacEntee. Now I will admit, I had heard several of his webinars for Legacy Family Tree and when I saw his Geneabloggers page on Facebook, I knew it was time to start my blog. I asked several questions on the group page and I found that everyone was very supportive and it was Thomas who came up the name for my blog.

I am setting a new goals for the coming year, I would like to average 3-5 posts per week. I have plenty to write about that is for sure! I have started a new tradition here called "Family Photo Friday" and I will be using family photos from the past as well as the present. I am considering other possible weekly or monthly ideas such as men in my family who worked for the rail road. I will also be continuing with My Mormon Pioneer series as I now work through all of the children of Charles Coulson Rich.

My goals for my blog in the first year was to experiment with how many times a week I would be able to post, I had decided that 3 was a good number to start with and began writing. According to my mathematician (my hubby) for the first six months of my blog from June 20th to 31st of December 2014. I wrote 54 posts in that time which is an average of two blogs a week. Not exactly what I was hoping for but still pleased with my effort.

I have written blogs from January 2, 2015 to 30 June, 2015 (scheduled to post while I am in Savannah). That is a total of 181 days so far in 2015 and 68 posts total for the end of June. This means that I have averaged 2.72 posts a week. Which is better than the previous six months and I am getting closer to that goal of 3 posts per week. According to Blogger's statistics, I had 1,774 page views for the month of May and since starting my blog I have had 15,216 page views since starting this blog.

Thank you again for stopping by and visiting my blog! Here is to another year of blogging. And here are my top 15 posts for the last year. I am looking forward to the coming year with plans and dreams for my blog!
